Biography
Selena’s art is a surreal fusion of abstraction and realism exploring humanity’s connection to nature. She creates backgrounds with intuitive immediacy in acrylic paint which contrast her lifelike renderings of plants, animals, and anatomy in oils. Through distinctive juxtaposition, Selena gives life to a jewel toned, ethereal universe enticing viewers to contemplate the fragile balance of all life.
The surrealist movement stimulated Selena’s imagination and nurtured a love of drawing and eventually painting. Her art history education inspired further study into the myths of different cultures, psychology, and philosophy. By assimilating these varied perspectives, she recognizes a common desire to define humanity’s role within nature. Applying her lifelong passion for art, Selena’s abstract surrealist style is the lens through which she ponders this complex transhistorical paradigm.
Selena studied classical oil painting at Washington University in St. Louis and the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. She lives and works in Northern Nevada with her husband and forest sprite of a son. Her paintings hang in private collections in the United States and Europe.
